Lisa T. Grimes, President and Chief Executive Officer

Lisa T. Grimes is President and Chief Executive Officer of PurThread Technologies Inc. Lisa has spent the majority of her 28-year career in sales, marketing, and executive management in the healthcare industry. She is the former CEO of InSite Clinical Trials, a site management organization that was acquired by United Healthcare.

In addition, Lisa has previously served as Vice President of Business Development for Pharmaceutical Product Development (Nasdaq:PPDI). She was as a member of the Executive Advisory Group of Campbell Alliance and its subsidiary, the Pharmaceutical Institute for ten years. Lisa has also served as CEO of AcSentient, a specialty pharmacy company focused on ophthalmics, and Angiomics, an anti-angiogenesis company.

She is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lighthouse Ministries and is immediate past Chair of The Caring Community Foundation (a local cancer charity). Lisa graduated from the School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Scott Ballenger, Senior Vice President, Business Development

Scott brings over 20 years of driving innovation into the healthcare arena through creative business-development partnerships and novel win-win commercialization models. He specializes in new-solution development and commercialization within the life-science sector and brings a strong track record of success with both start-up entrepreneurs and established Fortune 50 companies. He has served as a consultant, advisor, and board member to numerous healthcare and IT enterprises, as well as a lead sales person and business- development team member for multiple healthcare-solution providers. Scott holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree with highest honors and distinction from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Martin Beasley, PhD, RPh, Vice President, Product Development

Martin Beasley is a seasoned pharmaceutical professional with broad experience in NDA/sNDA/ANDA product development, contract development, and virtual product development.  He was formerly the Senior Director, Pharmaceutical Development for King Pharmaceuticals R & D, Inc., then Pfizer.  For nearly 11 years, he was responsible for developing drug delivery systems, directing drug product Chemistry Manufacturing & Control (CMC) NDA activities, identifying opportunities for in-licensing drug delivery technology and exploring external partnerships for new drug development.  Dr. Beasley has over 39 years combined experience in hospital pharmacy, Army pharmacy practice, pharmaceutics research, product development and business development.  He earned his BS in Pharmacy at Auburn University, his MS in Pharmaceutics and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Mississippi.

His industrial pharmacy career began in 1985 as Senior Scientist at Schering-Plough in Sterile Products Formulation Research.  Martin is a co-inventor on many pharmaceutical patents and patent applications, a co-author of several publications, abstracts, and poster presentations, and is an author of 5 monographs in the Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients.  He has been an invited speaker for presentations on topics including Formulation Stability, Controlled Substances Regulations for the Pharmaceutical Industry, Science Careers in the Pharmaceutical Industry, and Optimizing Contractor – Sponsor Relationships for Successful Drug Delivery Programs.

Dr. Beasley is a Strategic Advisory Board member in the NextGen Development Group. He holds active membership in the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, North Carolina Pharmaceutical Discussion Group, and the Triangle College of Clinical Pharmacists.  Dr. Beasley also maintains a current pharmacy license.

Alan F. Boyd, RPh, Mac, Chief Operating Officer

Alan brings over 30 years of experience across the healthcare and IT industries. He has worked in large healthcare systems and Fortune 500 companies, as well as being involved in founding several start-up companies. Most of Alan’s career has been spent in sales, operations, and business development in the healthcare industry. After many years of selling complex clinical and marketing services to the pharmaceutical industry, over the last decade he has focused on developing, operationalizing and selling innovative solutions that utilize sophisticated IT tools to produce efficiencies for healthcare and clinical research clients. He holds Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Accounting degrees, both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition, he was a recipient of both the GSK Public Policy Fellowship and the Burroughs Welcome Health Economics Fellowship.

Stephen W. Foss, Founder and Chief Technical Officer

Stephen W. Foss is the Founder and Chief Technical Officer of PurThread Technologies Inc. He is also Managing Director of Nonwoven Network, a global developer of high performance fibers and fabrics for industrial applications. Mr. Foss has over 40 years of experience in developing and manufacturing specialty fibers and fabrics. He was previously the Chairman and CEO of Foss Manufacturing, a diversified manufacturer of synthetic fibers and nonwoven fabrics.

He has served on the boards of a number of private and public companies such as Ameron International and Tyco International, as well as not-for-profits such as the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and the Institute for EthnoMedicine. Mr. Foss holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Textile Technology with high honors from North Carolina State University.

Lloyd W. Frick, Vice President, Biology

Lloyd W. Frick is the Vice President, Biology for PurThread Technologies, Inc. Prior to joining PurThread, he was a consulting advisor to several pharmaceutical companies on drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic (DMPK) issues. From 2001-2005, he was first Principal Research Investigator, and then Director, DMPK, at Trimeris, Inc. Between 1986 and 2001, he held various research and leadership positions at Burroughs-Wellcome, GlaxoWellcome, and GlaxoSmithKline. From 1982-1986, Dr. Frick was a post-doctoral fellow studying the chemical mechanisms of enzymes. Dr. Frick holds a PhD in zoology from the University of Hawaii, and a BS in Biology from Brown University.

Timothy L. Krist, Chief Financial Officer

Tim has over 24 years of finance and accounting experience in public accounting and companies across multiple industries including manufacturing, software and technology, residential real estate and construction, multi-unit retail, telecommunications, and entrepreneurial ventures. He has worked in both public and private companies ranging from start-up to multi-national. Most recently, Tim served as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Charles & Colvard, Ltd., a publicly traded gemstone and jewelry manufacturer, where during his tenure sales increased 170% and the company became profitable for the first time since 2007. Previously, Tim served as Chief Financial Officer of Smart Online, Inc., a publicly traded company that develops and markets software products and services targeted to small businesses that are delivered via a Software-as-a-Service model; and Director of Finance of KB Home, a national homebuilder. He started his career with the Cleveland office of Deloitte & Touche. Tim received his Bachelor of Accountancy degree from Miami University (Ohio) and his MBA from Arizona State University. In 2010, Tim was awarded the CFO of the Year Award for a Small Public Company by the Triangle Business Journal.

Jenifer F. Smyth, Senior Vice President, Consumer and Military Applications

Jenifer brings close to 20 years of experience in the consumer, internet, and industrial spaces, helping companies to market innovative technologies. Prior to PurThread, Ms. Smyth was a consultant to start-up businesses, and an Account Director at Studio V Marketing, a boutique firm aiding clients with public relations, influencer marketing, and events. She was previously a Director and Director of Marketing at Foss Manufacturing, a manufacturer of specialty fibers and nonwoven fabrics. Having held senior positions at Della.com (now the Knot) and co-founding the sponsorship group at Excite Inc, she began her career in the custom-publishing arm of Hachette Filipacchi Magazines. Ms. Smyth was graduated cum laude with a BA in English from Middlebury College.
